Meet Michael Morgovsky – Embedded Software Team
At Punch Through, we encourage everyone to proudly be themselves and want you to know the people behind the work that we’re so proud of. That’s why we launched our “Meet the Team” series, where we introduce you to one of our team members each month.
Meet Michael Morgovsky, associate embedded software engineer. While on the job, writing firmware is what takes up most of Michael’s time – with some test development thrown in for good measure. Outside the office is another story. He enjoys gaming and spending time with family and friends.
What were you doing before working at Punch Through?
I’ve been studying computer engineering at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities for the past few years. I ended up taking a microcontrollers class that I really enjoyed and wanted to learn more about this aspect of the industry, which led me to this particular opportunity at Punch Through.
What is your favorite thing about Punch Through culture?
One of my favorite things about Punch Through culture is the emphasis on people. Since the first day of joining the team, it’s been easy to see how much everyone looks out for and supports one another. Then, the simple fact that Punch Through makes sure everyone is working on something they genuinely enjoy reinforces that “people-first” approach to the organization’s culture.
Tell me a story about your most memorable moment while working at Punch Through
The most memorable moment would have to be when I first started. Coming in, I thought I’d be working on some internal tools for the company. That wasn’t the case. Instead, I was working on a project with other engineers, and it was so cool to contribute to something that would eventually be out in the market. And though I lacked knowledge initially, that was easily bridged by those on the project team who were more than willing to help me learn and grow during the process.
What cool or rewarding things do you get to do on a regular basis?
The project work itself would have to be the coolest and most rewarding part of the job. Not too many people get the chance to actively improve someone’s life with the work they do, and we get to do it on a regular basis. Plus, we get the chance to collaborate with other engineers everyday, and everyone has these specialties that allow each of us to learn from one another and expand our knowledge in the field. That’s both cool and rewarding.
What is the most valuable part of your work to you on a personal level?
The most valuable part of my work builds off what’s been so cool and rewarding with this job. It’s the exposure to different aspects of a project. You get to dabble in all the different subsections of the field, which opens you up to these learning experiences that end up being highly valuable. Again, the opportunities to learn and grow are almost endless.
What is different about Punch Through versus other places you have worked?
Although Punch Through was my first real engineering role, the sense of community at Punch Through is fairly prevalent. It makes you feel very comfortable being yourself and sharing your experiences, knowing you’ll be accepted for who you are. That sense of community can be felt in everything we do here, all the way to recognizing people’s achievements. In our weekly discussions, we learn about the positive work everyone has been doing and collectively celebrate those successes.
