Meet Erin Moore – Administrative Team

At Punch Through, we encourage everyone to proudly be themselves and want you to know the people behind the work that we’re so proud of. That’s why we launched our “Meet the Team” blog post series, where we introduce you to one of our team members each month

Meet Erin, our office manager and hiring coordinator. She’s a go-getter who enjoys creating art and making her friends and collegues laugh.

What were you doing before working at Punch Through?

I graduated from college with a graphic design degree and worked in various settings where I wore many different hats — from graphic design, of course, to project management. But I still didn’t know exactly where I wanted to work, with one exception: I didn’t want to be at a competitive graphic design firm. That type of environment just doesn’t fit my personality. I feel more at home at a workplace that allows its employees to grow and prosper personally through professional development opportunities.

What is your favorite thing about the Punch Through culture?

Communication in the company is exceptionally open, so much so that we’ve taken on a mindset of “speak up, speak often.” Naturally, this has helped us brainstorm, collaborate, and come up with solutions together. It’s also made us genuinely feel that each person is interested in each other’s professional and personal development. We’ve built and nurtured a culture where we can truly be ourselves, which allows us to be more than just “co-workers.” I can talk to anyone about anything from scheduling interviews to conspiracy theories.

Tell me about your most memorable moment while working at Punch Through

Twice a year, the team goes on a company retreat. My first time attending happened very recently after I started. I didn’t know what to expect. I envisioned a 3-day long “business meeting,” but I was pleasantly surprised. The trip was filled with fun activities, free time to get to know each other, and also included work-related activities.

At one point, we all met and discussed the past year. This really helped me to understand the company, how each person contributed, and how we worked together collectively to accomplish goals. It was a perfect mix of productivity and fun. It was also a bit amusing to see co-workers in sweatpants drinking coffee, which just added to the comfort level I already felt with my team.

What cool or rewarding things do you get to do regularly?

As a relatively new hire, a lot of trust has been bestowed upon me. I manage the hiring process and am in charge of building our team, which is extremely rewarding. But of the many hats I wear at Punch Through, one of the most fashionable hats has to be planning the company culture activities.

I really enjoy getting ideas of what to do from the team, and organizing these events definitely provides a certain sense of accomplishment. After all, I’m in charge of making people happy and coming up with activities to help them get to know one another better. At Punch Through, we cherish work/life balance, and that’s why company-sponsored events are such a great addition.

What is the most valuable part of your work to you on a personal level?

I’m so comfortable being myself, largely due to the fact that I create my own professional path. With the full support of management, I have the freedom to pursue projects that I find interesting. Our culture is based around autonomy and trust, so I don’t necessarily need “permission.” It’s almost a given that employees will make good decisions for ourselves and our company. Even though I don’t have technical experience, I feel like a part of the team because I am always learning things from my co-workers.

Professionally, I’m getting a wide range of experience — accounting and bookkeeping, office administration, hiring, and human relations. I feel that I control more of my day-to-day and have become more efficient with daily tasks, which makes me feel more accomplished. Being the point person and managing other people’s schedules has helped me to be more organized and get in the habit of planning ahead.

What is different about Punch Through versus other places you have worked?

The environment. It’s comfortable. No one is too busy to talk to their coworkers. At other places, I felt lost and didn’t have a lot of support. Here, I have that support. My opinions matter, and I don’t feel intimidated to talk to my manager about issues.

We also teach our clients and potential job candidates who we are right away — our story, how we work, and what we think is important. We’re transparent and very communicative. We do serious work, but we’re humans who like to have fun, and it shows.
