Meet Alec Letourneau – Mobile Software Team

At Punch Through, we encourage everyone to proudly be themselves and want you to know the people behind the work that we’re so proud of. That’s why we launched our “Meet the Team” series, where we introduce you to one of our team members each month. 

Meet Alec, one of our software engineers who’s a “Jack of All Trades” and is happy to take on any project you throw at him.

What were you doing before working at Punch Through?

I was working toward my Computer Engineering degree at the University of MN. During that time, I was hired as an intern at Punch Through — a position I held for the last year of my schooling. I felt it was important to get an internship, as it allowed me to apply my skills in a professional setting and discover my passion for software engineering. Punch Through was a great place to start.

What is your favorite thing about the Punch Through culture?

We enjoy interacting with each other. The company puts people first and does right by its employees. Upper management is open to feedback and listens. The value of protecting the people and protecting the culture rings very true here. I have a high level of confidence in Punch Through and our values. 

Another thing I like about our culture is schedule flexibility. I recently bought a house. The flexible schedule helped the house searching and closing processes go more smoothly, while also allowing me to continue to work and be involved in projects. 

Also, there’s always beer in the office fridge. 🙂

Tell me a story about your most memorable moment while working at Punch Through

Our most memorable moments happen at company retreats and outings. We once played whirly ball — a combination of lacrosse and bumper cars — and laser tag.  We also have a tendency to get snowed in during our spring company retreats.

What cool or rewarding things do you get to do on a regular basis?

Professionally, I get to build awesome products for real companies. I work on many different types of projects, and because there’s a steep learning curve, I’m constantly acquiring new skills. Recently, a medical device project found a very creative way to use iPads. This was unique and a project I hadn’t experienced before, and may never have the chance to do again. The variety of projects is very cool and rewarding, as I get to experience a lot of different projects at one time.

Personally, company retreats are enjoyable and rewarding. We also do fun activities once a month to get to know each other better. Not that the technical challenges of my job aren’t satisfying. They are. But having a pool table just a few feet from my desk is definitely a plus. Who wouldn’t want to take 10 minutes to play a game and then return to your work with a fresh perspective?

What is the most valuable part of your work to you on a personal level?

What drives me most is the desire to deliver the best possible solutions for our clients. I want to see them succeed with what we’ve made for them. I like being able to succeed and in turn, see our clients succeed.

What is different about Punch Through versus other places you have worked at?

Everyone likes their job. We’re happy, there isn’t a lot of complaining, and it’s nice to not walk into the break room to hear people complaining about each other. Punch Through creates a  positive work environment. It’s more enjoyable and makes me happy to come to the office every day.
